Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Falcon & Singer P.C. has been in business since 1994. Mr. Falcon and Mr. Singer have each been practicing law over 30 years.
What is your primary product or service?
We provide comprehensive legal services to privately held businesses. We provide estate planning services to individuals, such services including estate tax planning, preparation of wills, trusts and other estate documents. We also have a practice concentration in planning for families that have a member with special needs and disabilities, including planning for government benefits such as Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income and Section 8 Housing, as well as preparation of Special Needs Trusts. In addition, we work with structured settlement planners and plaintiffs attorneys in structuring litigation awards and settlements in a way that will not reduce or limit any needs-based government benefits of the person receiving the settlement or judgment. Finally, we assist families in the administration of the estate when a person passes away.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Ray Falcon and Doug Singer, the founders of Falcon & Singer P.C. spent the early part of their careers in large NYC law firms practicing in the area of corporate and commercial law. Ray also spent a number of years as a senior executive and General Counsel to a multinational corporation. Ray and Doug decided to enjoy a lifestyle change attendant upon a smaller practice, so formed Falcon & Singer P.C.in 1994 with the goal of providing the highest quality legal services in a friendly, small-firm environment. Our initial practice was in the corporate, commercial and business law areas, serving closely-held business entities. Our estate planning practice developed initially as a holistic support to the owners of our closely held business clients. We served the business owners through their life cycle, providing legal support to the business while the owners were active, assisting in transition and succession planning when they were ready to retire from active operations and to provide proper tax and estate planning to minimize the impact of estate taxes and smooth the transition of the business to the next generation. Over the years, our estate planning practice expanded beyond our business owner base to include individuals from all walks of life. Our special needs practice developed a number of years ago as more and more families with a special needs member came to us for estate planning. Families with special needs members have additional complex personal and legal issues that differ from other families. We assist families with special needs members not only in their regular estate planning, but also in addressing their unique concerns, such as obtaining or preserving needs based government benefits, including Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income, for the family member with the disability.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We think of our clients as our friends. We speak plain English, not legalese. In his prior capacity as General Counsel of a large company, Ray Falcon was also a client, hiring law firms around the world to service the needs of his company. As a result, we know what it feels like to be a client, the things clients appreciate and the things they dislike. The friendly, relaxed and personal environment our clients find in our offices is combined with the highest quality legal skills. The firm holds a peer review rating AV® from Martindale-Hubbell, which is Martindale Hubbell's highest rating for both legal ability and ethical standards. (Martindale Hubbell is the facilitator of a peer review rating process.) The ratings reflect the confidential opinions of members of the Bar and the Judiciary.
